Hello Jefferson Jaguar 5th Graders!!  This year you will have the opportunity to begin your journey as a instrumental musician in Temple ISD.  As a 5th grader, you will have the option to join the TISD orchestra program and learn one of the four basic stringed instruments in the orchestra family:  the violin, viola, cello, or bass.  Guitar is not an option for orchestra.  Joining orchestra requires at least a one year commitment as this will be a class that would replace classroom music. 

 

Information on how to obtain a stringed instrument will be given to the students shortly after the beginning of the school year.  Please do NOT buy an instrument online.  It is very important that the students be set up correctly with the right size and model instrument.  We will need to do that prior to obtaining an instrument.  As a 5th grade orchestra student, you will learn the basics of how to hold the instrument, care for the instrument, make beginning sounds on the instrument while also learning a few fun songs along the way.  

 

Our 5th grade program is set up to have orchestra 2-3 days per week. The students will be expected to have their instrument and supplies every day that they have orchestra. At times, they will be given stuff to practice at home. Most importantly, my goal for my orchestra students is to instill a lifelong love and appreciation of music. I am looking forward to another great year for the Jefferson Jaguar orchestra!!
